Psalm #17

I might be missing the overarching point of this Psalm, but so far all of these psalms so far have been the psalmist wanting his God to lay waste to his enemies and elevate himself over them. That being said, I do notice an interesting theme in this one.

The psalmist is anthropomorphizing his God by giving him eyes, lips, and ears, but also giving him wings, like an angel and the ferocity of a lion. At the end, he wishes to see God’s face and be satisfied. The psalms, while seen by many as songs of praise, are also quite violent in their imagery. This one wished God to attack like a lion waiting in ambush and using a sword.
